WWE Reveals WrestleMania SmackDown Andre The Giant Battle Royal Lineup and Intercontinental Title Match

It’s about to be WrestleMania Week, and WWE will be pulling out all stops for next week’s shows, including the return of Andre The Giant Battle Royale. The big battle royal will take place on SmackDown next week, and the battle line-up has been revealed to be Finn Balor, Jinder Mahal, Apollo, Commander Aziz, The Viking Raiders, Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin, Damien Priest, Shankey, Madcap. Moss, Reggie, Akira Tozawa, Mansour, R-Truth, Robert Rudy, and Drew Gulak. This isn’t the only big event of the night, as there will also be the Intercontinental Championship match.

The match will be a triple threat match between Intercontinental Champion Ricochet, Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo. This occurs after a quarrel between them at SmackDown last night, which began with a match between Garza and Ricochet, but after interference from Carrillo Ricochet challenged him to a match immediately afterwards.

They fought back and once again Ricochet was the receiving end of the wrong attack thanks to Garza, and now they will all be in contention for the Intercontinental title. It would be a huge shock for The Title if they changed hands near WrestleMania 38, but even crazier things have happened.

Also shocking is the fact that US Champion Finn Balor is part of Andrew The Giant Battle Royal. It’s rare for a defending champion to be in a match, especially if Balor is a stature, and winning that event shouldn’t be higher than the United States title, so he doesn’t get much out of this far from filling in the spot in the match, even if he does win it.

As for the match itself, it doesn’t have the best history of actually paying the winners. Cesaro and Baron Corbin winning (at WrestleMania 30 and 32 respectively) was a best-case scenario, especially for Corbin, as it was his WrestleMania debut. Other matches didn’t do much for the winners, be it Big Show and Matt Hardy (really legends) or Braun Strowman and Mojo Rawley, who didn’t get much benefit from winning them.

We’ll have to wait and see if that’s the case here or if someone gets a real boost from it, although if I had to pick someone who could benefit the most, it would be someone like Apollo, Reggie, Madcap Moss, or Mansoor. Any of these winners can use it as a platform to launch a new round if WWE treats the match as a big deal and if they pursue some kind of creative push or hold afterward.
